Last Monday was the first day of school for the girls. They are very happy to be back ... and so are we! It was a bit difficult adjusting to my new schedule and the girls to theirs. Friday night we had a family game night just to have a bit of fun after a hectic week. The girls made up charade ideas and we all played in the living room. What a blast! This weekend we did chores and rearranged the living room. Chores are still not done (of course) but the living room looks great! Miss you all. Here is a photo of the girls on their 1st day of school...
August 13, 2007 Last night Gracie wanted her hair in curlers. Today she let me take a series of photographs of her and her curls. I think she is absolutely lovely...
August 12, 2007 I had a great birthday weekend. We all went to one of our favorite campsites, Twin Anchors, in Colo, IA. It was a very hot weekend, so we didn't do much but play cards and take a couple of naps ... but it was great. Friday night Dave and the girls gave me a CSN greatest hits CD, some great cards and sang "Happy Birthday" to me. I think we hit the pillows about 9 pm! Saturday night our friends from Ames, Denise and Lee Lawson, came and visited us at the campsite. We stayed up until about 11pm talking. The girls start school a week from tomorrow, but I sure hope that we get a chance to go camping a few more times before it gets too cold! It sure would be nice to camp and have a campfire because its chilly outside!
August 7, 2007 Dave had a playoff game for his C-league ice-hockey game today. The team he was playing showed up with a goalie from the Des Moines Oak Leafs (a A-league team). There was no score until 18 seconds until the game was over and Dave's team scored on the Oak Leafs goalie! The final score was 1-0. This was also Dave's first shut-out game. Go Dave!
July 29, 2007 We went camping this weekend at Whitebreast Campground on Red Rock Lake near Knoxville, Iowa. It was the first time we went camping this year...can you believe it! We are going to make up for lost time. We had a great time. We arrived Friday night and set up our camper. We ate a yummy dinner of grilled cheese-burgers and then went to hang out with some friends of ours, Gina and Kevin Allen. Gina and I stayed up until 1 am chatting! Saturday we lounged about until after lunch. After lunch we went to the beach and played in the water. Gracie and Mary found a mud hole another little girl had started. They were covered in mud! I was so funny! Then we went out on Gina and Kevin's boat for a while. We found a nice little cove and set the anchor so the girls could take turns jumping off the boat. We came back to the campsite around 5 pm, got cleaned up and Dave, the girls and I went for a bike ride. We turned in for the night around 10 pm, woke up early and headed for home around 10 am. We had a much needed relaxing weekend. Can't wait until the next camping outing!
July 22, 2007 Well, we just got back from another road trip to Sikeston, MO via St. Louis. It was a very busy weekend. Friday night we hung out with Dave's family at Robins. It was good to see everybody. Dave, the kids and I spent the night at a hotel in Chesterfield and then headed out to Sikeston to take Mike and Shelby to meet their mom. Saturday evening we spent with Mom/Grandma Sneed. We had a great time their too ... and ate some yummy Imo's Pizza! We headed out back to Dave's folks house on Sunday morning and then finally got on the road about noon (with Lion's Choice in our bellies!). Much later than expected, but that's ok! On our way back, we decided to take a different route through Mount Pleasant, Iowa. I don't know if it was any shorter, but it sure was prettier!! Mary, with the help of her sisters, lost her tooth on our journey home. Guess the Tooth Fairy will be visiting tonight! Here are a couple of photos from the trip:
July 19, 2007 Our neighbor is a photographer ( www.lcphotogallery.com )and she took our family portraits for us last weekend. I can't wait to see them all and chose one to enlarge and hang above our fireplace. Here are a couple of the ones she has posted on her website. I really think they look great.
July 18, 2007 Dave played hockey tonight. They ended up winning 7-2, but in the end of the 1st period the scoreboard said they were winning 199-0! Ha! To top off the night, Dave and I were sitting on the front step and a deer walked down the sidewalk...it was really neat. I didn't get a photo of the deer, but I did get a photo of the scoreboard! (The photo of him in action is not from tonight...but I like it!)
July 17, 2007 What a couple of weeks we had! Gracie turned 8 on July 5th. She loved all of the gifts: makeup and a purse from Grandma Mary; roller skates from Grandma Donna, Grandpa Sneed and Uncle Danny; a "CamelBak" from Aunt Jessie, Uncle Carl and "the boys," $5 from Great-grandma Dorothy and knee pads, elbow pads and a Beatles CD from Mom and Dad. Mary turned 7 on July 15th. She also got roller skates from the folks in sunny Florida; makeup and a purse from Grandma Mary; a "CamelBak" from the folks in South Carolina, $5 from Great-grandma Dorothy and her ears pierced from Mom and Dad. She loved them as well! Mary almost chickened out while she was waiting to get her ears pierced, but Dad came in and helped make her not so scared. Now she has pretty aquamarine earrings in her little ears! I think we've all had our fill of birthday cake and ice cream for a while! Take care all!
July 5, 2007 Welcome to the Brown Family website! We thought that since our family is spread all over this wonderful USA that the best way to keep everyone up to date is to share photos and such here! Please enjoy. Peace and love to all...
